Salt scores 4 times as Oologah beats Catoosa 48-0
The Oologah Mustangs (2-2 overall, District 4A-3 2-0) picked apart the Catoosa Indians (0-7, District 4A-3 0-4) defense in a 48-0, led by four scores from quarterback Blake Salt.
Salt completed 14 of 22 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns, and he also rushed for 20 yards and another score.
After beating Miami 45-0 last week, the Mustangs are have put together two straight forty-point shutouts, showing they have rebounded well from two early losses.
And, also like last week, Oologah scored every quarter of the game, including three touchdowns in the second.
Blake Salt got the ball rolling early, connecting with Devin Ankerich for a 41-yard touchdown with 9:41 left in the first quarter. On the next drive, Salt kept the ball on the ground for a 1-yard run.
The second quarter was explosive for the Mustangs offense with three touchdowns—all of which came in the last five minutes of the half. The first score was on a 7-yard run from Trimble with 5:02 on the clock, then Salt connected with A.J. Streater for back-to-back touchdowns from 30 yards and 26 yards, respectively.
The offensive outburst was made possible by rock-solid defense from Oologah, constantly pressuring the Indians and creating turnovers.
Oologah led 34-0 at the half.
With a big lead, the second half was cruise-control for Oologah. Trimble scored in the third quarter on a 39-yard fumble recovery, and Nate Morrow found the endzone from 32-yards out early in the fourth for the final score of the night.
Oologah walked away with a dominant 48-0 win and will be looking ahead to a match-up with a talented Grove team on October 19h—a game that has been rescheduled.
