Margaret Ann (Brewer) Valk

Margaret Ann (Brewer) Valk was born December 17,1953; the third of four children born to Olen Curtis and Edna Mae (Watkins) Brewer. She was a lifelong resident of the Oologah-Talala area. She was very proud of her family, her home, and her community. She was a talented athlete, who, when not playing a sport for the Oologah Mustangs, was a cheerleader for the players in the games. She met the love of her life and best friend, Roger Valk, while both attended Oologah High School. They were married on November 10, 1973. They had two daughters, Angela and Kimberly. As the girls grew, her athletic interests were re-ignited, and she delighted in watching them compete in softball games all over the United States at elite levels. When she became a grandmother, her heart grew even bigger, filling with even more love for two more girls, Cydney and Madison, who were the sparkle in her eyes and the joys of her heart. She was not a stranger to difficult times, but faced every adversity with an unending faith in her Lord, and a kind of ferocious love that she poured out endlessly to her family and friends. Humor was also her way. Even as she was preparing to go home with Jesus, she kept us all laughing. With her humor, our healing began. She worked for Frank W. Murphy Manufacturing for 26 years, before retiring from that to become a full-time caregiver for her daughter Kim, which she did with ease and fervor all at the same time. Her dedication to her family was unrelenting. Her friends were as close as family, and she always credited the Lord, her family, and her great friends as her sources of strength. Always there with a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on, or a smile and some great laughs to brighten the darkest day. She was also a talented singer/songwriter, that began her gigs in the pasture as a tiny child that would sing to the calves. As an adult, she wrote and performed many beautiful gospel songs, was the choir director for Liberty Freewill Baptist Church for many years, even though she never knew how to read music. Her gifts and talents were never wasted, and always a blessing to the ears that heard them.Margaret went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 12,2018, surrounded by family and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved father-in-law, Dave Valk; her parents, OC Sr. and Edna Brewer; her sister, Beverly Maier; brother-in-law James Maier; nephew Jeremy Brewer; and great nephew Noah Vogt.
