Donald Gene Brister
Donald Gene Brister 77, of Oologah passed away Sunday January 21, 2018 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born April 13, 1940 in Bokchito to Mims Walter “M.W.” and Dorothy Parks Brister. He attended Franklin school till 8th grade at Caddo and was a Caddo High School graduate a year early in 1957 and Graduated Southeastern College in 1961 with a teaching degree. He met Martha Tucker at Sherrer drive in in Durant in December of 1959. When he saw her he said she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen and was going to marry her someday. He taught school for a year in 1961 in Italy, TX and married Martha Tucker August 10, 1962 in Caddo. They moved to Oologah at that time and taught at Oologah schools from 1962-1992. He attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, TX and received a Masters Degree in 1970. He was of the Baptist faith and was a 50 year member of the Oologah Masonic Lodge. His favorite activities included hunting and fishing with grandkids especially their fishing trips to Canada and loved mentoring young hunters and fishermen. His lifetime hobby of beekeeping became his new profession after retiring from teaching. He loved beekeeping, extracting and bottling honey and cutting up the honeycomb. He became president and owner of the D.G. Brister Honey Company. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Martha of the home Oologah; daughter, Donna Adams and husband, Frank of Claremore; son, Darrell Brister and fiancé’ Tracie Price of Denison, TX; beloved grandkids, Ariel Adams of Joplin, MO, Aaron Adams and wife, Faith and Abigail Adams all of Claremore; sister, Betty Ruth Parker of Caddo; and numerous nieces, nephews and students everywhere who called him Mr. B A. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 27 at Cunningham Funeral Home in Caddo with Reverend Tommy Rowland officiating. Burial followed in the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo. Pallbearers were Russell Brister-Cousin, Dudley Rowland- Nephew, Fishing buddies and former students, Trent Boyd, Marshall Tolley, Hunter Tolley and Brent Salt. Honorary Pallbearers, boyhood friend, James Lester, Carl Boyd and Gary Brown both lifelong friends and teaching buddy and cousin, Loyd Brister, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and two little brothers, Jerry Doyle and Neil Walter.
