Darrel was born January 14, 1932 in Pratt, Kan. to Albert “Hap” and Florence Haltom Pearson.
He grew up in the Alva-Waynoka area learning the finer details of wheat farming. As a teen, he went on numerous wheat harvests from Texas to North Dakota.
He attended Alva Highschool, graduating in 1950. In 1952, he joined the army and served for two years in the service of his country.
After his honorable discharge, he started working for American Airlines in Tulsa. He retired after 36 years of service. While at American, he met the love of his life, Jean. They were married August 16, 1958. They lived in Tulsa before settling down in Oologah to raise three children, LaDonna, Lynette, and Brant.
Darrel was very active in his community and church. He was instrumental in establishing the rural water district and served two terms on the Oologah-Talala School Board.
He volunteered at Bit by Bit taking care of the horses and spoiling the kids.
Darrel was named Oologah senior citizen o the year. For many years, he served as church secretarytreasurer at the Chelsea and Oologah United Pentecostal Churches.
Darrel and Jean spent many summers 4-wheeling in Colorado. He enjoyed turkey and pheasant hunting. He loved being outside.
Darrel is preceded in death by his wife, Jean of 52 years. Parents, Albert and Florence Pearson, siblings, Janette Ditweiler, Leon and Larry Pearson, son-in-law Kirby Hix and Granddaughter, Emily Prado.
He is survived by his children, LaDonna Hix, Lynnette and Jim Proffit, Brant and his wife, Shellie Pearson, all of Oologah. Grandchildren Krystal Holmes-Oologah, Elayna Warren-Willets, CA, Amanda Pearson-Owasso, and Jared Prado-Skagway, Alaska. Great grandchildren Devin, Hunter, Luke, Sterling, Kaiden, and Lily.
Also, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters-inlaw, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Royal Rangers and Missionettes at Oologah Assembly of God or to a charity of your choice.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Oologah Assembly of God Church.
