The Oologah Lake Leader is Oklahoma’s most honored community newspaper. It has been named the best midsize weekly newspaper 16 times in the past 28 years by the Oklahoma Press Association. The Leader was founded in 1982 by J. R. Haney and has been owned since 1984 by John and Faith Wylie, who live in Oologah. The newspaper covers Oologah, Talala and northwest Rogers County.
Carolyn EstesLeader marketing director, is a national expert in using newspapers in schools. She created the award-winning feature “For the Kid in You” for the Leader’s NIE program. The feature is now nationally syndicated. She has also written three serials children’s stories for the Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation. She was the Leader’s news editor before taking over advertising and marketing duties, where she has set new records for advertising sales.

Tim Carman, an Oologah graduate, handles distribution for the Leader. He picks up thousands of copies of the newspaper each week from the printer, delivers labeled papers to the Post Office, and services the stores that sell individual copies of the paper. He is also a great photographer.
